My Favorite Summer Lip Formula

In the summertime I want my beauty products to be Iow maintenance and pretty; I don’t think you have to sacrifice one to achieve the other. As for lips, I also add juicy to the requirements. I don’t want something that needs lip liner. Bonus if I can reapply without a mirror. Lasting time is not as important as comfort for me. Luckily, there are some great options on the market right now that match my preferences.

Dior Lip Glow

This is the lip formula for me. If I could only choose one, forever, this would be it. I don’t say that lightly. I purchased mine in the shade 001 Pink Glow, and it’s the perfect “my lips but better shade.” The almost slightly sweet, slightly minty scent is so subtle. It’s shiny without being glittery, and I can apply it on the go. Also, I don’t have to think about this formula smudging outside my lip lines or getting on my teeth. It’s perfect. Of course there is a downside. At $32, it’s the priciest of all the formulas I’m sharing today. And, if you’re looking for intense pigment, this won’t be the one for you. It is the one for me, though.

L’Oréal Colour Riche Shine

These little babies are gold. Ok, the packaging is clear, but metaphorically they are gold. I wish I could thank the commenter on whatever YouTube video I was watching this past winter that recommended these. These definitely fall under the lipstick category, where the Dior is a balm. I have two colors in this formula. Glossy Fawn, a pretty nude; and Polished Tango, a summery pink. This formula is pigmented and very shiny. The scent reminds me of candy, but it is also subtle. I don’t wear them with a lip liner unless I really want to kick my look up a notch, so rarely. However, even without a liner they are very pigmented and don’t move around. Lasting power isn’t a strength, but again, I don’t mind because comfort is what I look for. I kept Glossy Fawn in my desk drawer this year, and I reached for it often. And, at $9.99, these are much more affordable than Dior’s Lip Glow. This price made it easier for me to try another color, whereas with Dior I’ve been holding off on repurchasing because the price tag. I am also less likely to risk purchasing another shade in the Dior because I’d rather play it safe with a luxury-priced product.

Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Lip Cream

This one isn’t a top favorite, but a runner up. I would say the texture of this formula falls in between the Dior and L’Oréal versions. It’s right between a balm and a lipstick. I want to lead by saying this one is not my favorite. It’s good, but the first two are holy grail status. For me, this one would be one to keep in a beach/lake/pool bag. It’d be a welcome back-up when I wanted something shiny with SPF on my lips. This could also be a reigning car lipstick. I have my purse lipsticks, the ones I cherish, but sometimes I don’t bring my purse and am thankful for my car lipsticks. This formula is also shiny and pigmented. It’s also thicker. I notice this one on my lips, and that’s not as comfortable for me. There is a tropical scent, but it’s not nearly as pleasant as their standard butter (yum) scent. It comes in at $8.49, making it the most affordable one on the list.

NARS Afterglow Lip Balm

Lastly, I wanted to share one that on the outside and from the description seemed like it would become a favorite, but didn’t. I love NARS. I’m so drawn to this brand. My cousin bought me a NARS blush for Christmas years and years ago, and ever since I’ve been hooked. I want to preface this with had I bought this one before the Dior, I probably would have been satisfied. But, I bought this one to compete with the Dior one, and that is unfair. This product has the prettiest packaging. It’s sleek and weighty. The lip balm is a pretty pink with visible glitter. On the lips, the glitter is only faintly noticeable. This balm isn’t as emollient as the other formulas. It has a nice, subtle color that lasts for a bit, but on my lips the shine fades pretty quickly. Something about the scent reminds me of a Barbie, which I like for nostalgic reasons. It is $28, and sadly won’t be one I’ll repurchase.

With each season my makeup look changes. Summer makeup is by far my favorite. What are your favorite summer lip formulas or looks?

Xo,
