One of the very first albums I ever owned was Britney Spears’ ...Baby One More Time. I loved the songs, and I loved her style. The videos for her singles featured one of my favorite fashion pieces: the crop top.

I love the little sliver of skin a crop top shows; I think it creates such a flattering and interesting shape for outfits. I personally prefer to keep my belly button covered when I style crop tops. I feel most comfortable that way. I also like to balance the piece out with whatever I’m pairing it with. This summer, on impulse, I picked up this crop at American Eagle. I liked how effortless it looked, and I like pieces that seem to have endless styling possibilities. I never want something hanging in my closet to be worn once or in a single way (my mom tried to instill this in me years ago, and it’s finally really sinking in). When I’m purging my closet, I like my pieces to be worn; I love when a shirt is almost see-through from so much wear, or the holes in my jeans have grown immensely because they’ve been so loved. Here are three different ways I’ve worn this crop top.

The first way is the simplest and most casual. I like pairing this top with these shorts because they are looser and have the drawstring. Since the shorts aren’t tight, it adds balance to the outfit.

The second way is my favorite way to style this top. I love these green pants because I can also wear them to work (in a more modest fashion). I like the loose, covered bottoms with the tighter crop top.

Lastly, I styled it with classic denim shorts. Since these shorts are also tight, I styled them with a loose, boyfriend shirt and higher coverage sandals.

This top will also transition into fall. It’d pair well with the animal print skirt that has been all over the internet, or a floor sweeping duster and high-waisted jeans.
